Here, students learn to tap into both sides of their brain as they apply a liberal arts lens to the foundational management skills that build tomorrow’s most well-rounded and influential leaders. The MHO major includes a balanced curriculum that involves coursework from both the College and the Kelley School, developing fundamental communication, business, and analytical skills that are rooted in a thoughtful consideration and critical understanding of the role of business in society. All students in the major must complete a minor in one of these IU schools: Eskenazi, Media, Kelley, Luddy, or O’Neill. (With permission from the director, a College minor, major, or certificate may also be used to fulfill this requirement.)
As a result, our graduates emerge with a diverse skillset that is held in high regard—and high demand—by employers:
- Communication: listen empathetically and communicate effectively
- Intellectual agility: break down complex issues and respond nimbly
- Business insight: translate data into human action
- Interdisciplinary perspective: frame and answer questions using competing or complementary approaches
- Collaboration: grow in self-awareness in relation to how one works with others
- Social influence: influence and manage groups by understanding their social, cultural, historical, and ethical contexts
The MHO program is built from equal parts how and why. Here, students learn how to unleash the power of humanity in business by understanding why human motivations and perspectives matter in the business world. Our graduates go on to succeed in jobs that align with their career goals in fields like sales, consulting, business analysis, marketing, public relations, human resources, not-for-profit organizations, and management.
